Recently I met a Lady who described herself as a Recessionista. Now, I’ve heard of a fashionista and barista, but never a Recessionista. She explained that despite the bad job market and difficulties finding work she maintains a positive attitude towards her job search. We talked about her job search marketing plan; from registering on every employment website, to weekly networking events, to telling everyone she meets that she is looking. About an hour later, we said our goodbyes and I left her knowing that it was a just matter of time before she found a job. She never once complained about the lack of jobs or her situation…she was DETERMINED…she was a Recessionista.
Soon after, it came to me. For all of my Single Lady friends who are making their way through this difficult Man market, they should have a plan similar to the Recessionista’s job search plan. So, on this Single Ladies’ Friday, I thought I would lay out 5 key items for a “Man Search Marketing Plan.” Here goes:
Take Action – Post your resume on as many employment websites as possible.
Man Search Translation: There are over twenty online dating websites out there…choose 4. Find the ones that best suit your personality and consider posting your profile on at least 2 sites. Posting on more sites will only increase your visibility and odds of filling up your weekends with back to back dates.
Let people know that you are looking – Reach out to new and former contacts.
Man Search Translation: This speaks for itself. Tell your cousins, your co-workers, gym partner, your brother and your cousin’s cousin that you’re on the Man market. Say yes to all blind dates, even if your Mom hooked you up.
Create a Unique Brand Identity – Distinguish yourself from the other many candidates.
Man Search Translation: Pull out your best pictures (toot your own horn) and make your profile interesting. There are more women on dating websites than men…so make sure you stand out. Identify your strengths and best assets.
Be Prepared – Ready your elevator pitch and interview suits.
Man Search Translation: Have your laid back “let’s meet for coffee” outfit ready and your “freak-um dress” on standby. Make a great first impression and don’t forget to get your flirt on.
Attend Networking Events – Interact with employers who may have openings with their company.
Man Search Translation: Go where the guys are. Leave the sweatsuit at home, put your stilettos on and head to the car wash. Ladies, (trust me on this one) Saturday mornings at the Car Wash…that is where it’s at! They are there doting on their cars and rims and talking to other men about cars. If you don’t have a car…Home Depot and the dry cleaners are also good “networking” spots.
So, there you have it. Forget the bad Man market and the difficulties you are having finding a Man. On this Single Ladies Friday, I say… get your “Man Search Marketing Plan” together and become a getmanista??? LOL!
