New Yorkers are always looking for that next thing and in turn Gotham never fails to deliver. I wrote last year about how I was obsessing over the Van Leeuwan truck and oh I still get very excited when I spot it – but a girl of course can have more than one obsession – right now for me its …. alas the Wafles and Dinges mobile. I can spot that bright canary yellow truck out of the corner of my eye and O-M-G, the waffles are perfectly crispy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside. If only they could find a way to sell Belgium frites from the truck … That would be just too perfect!

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009Anyone who knows me can tell you that my all time favorite cupcake shop is Two Little Red Hens located on the upper east side. In fact all of their baked goods are pretty yummy. Another plus is that they are pretty – beautifully decorated with colorful roses and such. But WAIT, I have a new L-O-V-E. Sugar Sweet Sunshine in LES has stolen – oh ok, borrowed my heart. I ordered a few batches for my good friend Glenda for her 30th birthday earlier this year and I sampled 3 flavors just standing at the counter – washed down with milk of course. OMG, they are really really really good. They are just the right size, very moist, and great frosting to cake ratio. There was more than a pang of guilt knowing that I traded up my uptown trusty for a hip downtown tyrst but somethings are just too good to pass up.
{ Artisanal Ice Cream Truck }
Thursday, August 20th, 2009Of course New Yorkers can never be satisfied with just Mr. Softee or the Circus Man. Window shopping in Soho yesterday I spotted the Van Leeuwan ice cream truck, the purveyor of gourmet organic ice cream. Of course in total New York fashion there was a line that was at least 30 minutes long. I pondered should I … shouldn’t I … hmm … finally my greed got the best of me and I stood in line in the 92 degrees heat … urrrgh! I guess it didn’t hurt that the truck was stationed outside the Louis Vuitton store. That means I was able to multi-task – Sweet! So, what’s so special about this ice cream? Well its organic for one and its of course delicious. After debating flavors, I decided on the Giandujia and Red Currant. YUM! No gum paste gook here – all fresh ingredients. The wait is a bit absurd but I guess it goes with the territory. Organic ice cream truck does sounds like an environmental oxymoron however but I guess that also goes with the territory. They have 2 trucks stationed in lower Manhattan and now one in Park Slope. This is a definite must try!
{Cute as Pie}
